Rick Springfield still rocks!
I was happy to see rocker Rick Springfield on Oprah last week. The 58 year-old General Hospital star spoke eloquently about his life growing up, his marriage and his new album, The Day After Yesterday.
Here are a few quotes from the show last week:
In 1985, Rick says he decided to leave the spotlight for awhile. "My wife was about to have our first baby, and I wanted to help raise him," he says. "So I just stopped my career and disappeared for five years while my two sons were born and became a house husband."
He doesn't regret his decision at all. "Now it was the most amazing thing that I could have done because I have an incredibly close relationship with both my boys and a great relationship with my wife," he says. "She's been through everything with me. I mean, we were dating before 'Jessie's Girl' was ever heard of, so she knows me like nobody knows me."
The first concert I ever attended was seeing Rick Springfield perform his hit, Jessie's Girl' back in the late 1980's. As a young girl, I was taken by his good looks and rocker image. Now, I am deeply impressed with his commitment to marriage and fatherhood. Nothing makes a man sexier than putting family first.

The only disappointing thing about his appearance on Oprah is that the 'fan' he surprised happens to be dating Rick's agent
I appreciated him too, but was puzzled by his trouble with manners! I liked Oprah's response to him and the way he handled it.
Wow! I didn't realize he was 58! What a great family guy, you don't find many of those in Hollywood!
I loved seeing handsome rocker Rick Springfield on Oprah! He was delightufl; it was fun hearing of his love of his family and his music and he's still gorgeous. Was a treat! the issue wasn't Rick's trouble with table manners, the topic rather was on his mom was so strict and elbows off the table was 1 example. Then it was just a joke. Great show.
I agree with anonymous! Those eyes are so very dreamy. He still looks great, even at 58.
I loved him in the 80's. I wish I would have seen the interview.
Rick's agent lives and works in Milwaukee, Wisconsin? I don't think so, Anonymous!
I don't think anyone said Rick's manager actually lives there.
So funny, it was my first concert too!!! Jessies' Girl album was played over and over in my room:)
aahhh the good old days, *sigh*. I heart Rick Springfield. He was the 1st poster I hung on my wall.
Thanks for letting me see that I didn't pick too badly! :)
there was no surprise. it was a set-up. the winner is dating his agent or manager. it was all a scam and the fans were lied to
I can assure you that Oprah's people alone selected the fan. Nobody had anyting else to do with it.
Oh come on! I dont know which comment holds more water...the initial one from anonymous indicating that this was a fan set-up, or the one from the other anonymous assuring us that Oprah's people were the only ones who picked this fan. If either of you had any balls, you would post in your own name and in the correct space...the official message board that has suddenly deleted this thread...big surprise....no offical statement, just hitting the delete button. I dont think the fan in question should be persecuted at all, but I do think an official statement should be made...it is the professional thing to do.
To Butterfly Princess/Little Miss Ladybug, I am sorry that your upbeat blog was dragged through this mess. I loved reading your post, and you are correct. Rick Springfield still rocks!!
I am sorry to have to have added my two cents here, but any mention of this issue on the offical message board gets deleted, with no explanation or statement.
Sincerely,
Kathleen (who is not hiding her identity)
This just got sent to me.
I can verify that the Oprah show had sole control in all aspects of the contest. The creation of the concept, picking the fan and the implementation of the surprise itself.
Thanks,
Rob Kos
I didn't read anywhere in the Oprah contest that the *winner* got a trip to Vegas with Rob K. My what a bonus.
Like your "verification" means squat at this point.
Please accept my apologies along with Kathleen BP/LML... but she's right, the fans are truly getting the shaft from Rick's camp.
Ok, then, why in the world would some (aka Dawn) need to go through Oprah to "meet" Rick Springfield when she's dating his Manager (Rob Kos)and take away the opportunity from someone else who could not have managed any other way.
This looks bad, as if Rick didn't want to have to deal with a real fan, so it looks like they planted one instead.
I truly believe that Rick is innocent in all this and was as surprised as anyone by who the fan choice was, but it certainly sheds some questionable light on the people he has surrounded himself with.
If Oprah's people selected the fan, I cannot imagine they didn't run it by the powers that be to make sure that they weren't dealing with some psychopath lunatic. People really must think we're stupid.
Also, truly, shame on that fan for even entering that contest. That contest was online and you had to submit your story. The directions asked specifically for someone who had never met Rick Springfield. This person is dating Rick Springfield's manager. Shame on her for stealing some lifelong fan's chance at meeting him.
I'm sorry as well to the owner of this blog, because you honestly seem like a very nice person...it's a shame all around.
"I'm sorry as well to the owner of this blog, because you honestly seem like a very nice person...it's a shame all around."
No worries, I am just surpised that my post generated so much response.
I'd love to know how anonymous knows that the fan was dating Rick's manager. Where does this information come from? I don't recall hearing it on the show. Maybe I missed it!
My apologies to the owner of this blog as well. Unfortunately, everything that makes them uncomfortable gets deleted from the official message board.
Rob,So who was in charge of final approval of Oprah's choice? Of course, you had absolutely no knowledge of who this fan was even though you had to arrange for Rick to arrive at the hospital where she works for the taping for the Oprah show. I find that strange. I have always known where anyone I dated worked. You also didn't know that she has met Rick on several occasions either, right?
This is why the fans get so angry. It's because we are treated like we are stupid when we ask for an explanation about anything.
Time to quit lying, you have been snagged.
Elizabeth
I too think it's a shame that this has come about. Oprah was/is a BIG deal for our man Rick. A major moment in time I think. And as much as I did love his appearance there, (or anywhere for that matter, as it promotes him) I think it sucks that the 'contest' wasn't fair.
I mean, what are the chances that Oprah's people would pick THE person who's seeing Rick's manager? A bit too coincidental I'd say, seeing as how so many people turned in stories to her site. Too set up. Stuff like this breaks my heart. I feel badly for the fans who wasted their precious time writing up 'fantasies' and sending them in.
I don't care who 'dates' who. That is totally not the point here. The point is...*we* were set up and led to believe it was an actual surprise. How deceitful and disheartening to fans of Rick.
Who lines his/their pockets anyway? (those who sometimes get the wool pulled over their eyes!)

PS...OH, and to the blog writer, I loved your raves over seeing Rick on Oprah! It really was great seeing him there with her. And anytime you do a blog about Rick Springfield, you should get replies! :)
To answer Ashley's question - Dawn and Rob K had been seen hanging out together over the past year or so, and this past weekend in Vegas, they both attended the shows at the Green Valley Ranch and were spotted together by several people on several instances and it was quite clear there was a relationship there.
